Alberto # 9 is IMPOSSIBLE!

Hi guys, Im stuck on a level and to be honest I dont see ANY way that it can be completed!

The level is from Alberto Garcia, the titel of the level is "Alberto " from 06-01-28. Here is a link to the graphic. Its the bottom middle level (level # 9):

http://www.sourcecode.se/sokoban/levelgraph.php?file=Alberto.slc&max=50&nr=1

The problem I am having is an obvious one. See the bottom 4 balls? How can all of them be moved up and out of the lower horzitonal chamber? Its imposisble! They cant be moved!

ANY help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes, it's a bit tricky when you're not used to that type of level. Here is my solution for that level. I didn't include the complete solution, but there should be enough to get you through. If not, I'll give a little more. I've broken the moves and pushes up into smaller groups for easier reading. Smile

Here's the first part, which takes you right up to where you will start working on the bottom row.

  Moves/Pushes/Box-lines/Changes/Steps/Pusher-lines: 204/58/23/11/22/84

From this point on you will be working on the bottom row. Here is how to get the first ball out of there:

  Moves/Pushes/Box-lines/Changes/Steps/Pusher-lines: 95/32/12/5/12/45

You should be able to take it from there.

I clicked on that link, and I think you're really referring to level 8.

Because level 9 looks like this (and it's the bottom right on the link you gave):

Level: '9' Nr: 9 Collection: 'Alberto'

and level 8 (the bottom middle from the link you gave) looks like this:

Level: '8' Nr: 8 Collection: 'Alberto'

Learn to use the code option, it's really nice to show levels.

Yes, thats the level ( 8 ). Thanks.

Any ideas on how to move the 4 bottom balls out of the lower chamber?

Didn't my solution work?

I revised my original post to make it more clear

I really appreciate your help. I dont understand how to read your directions. I understand u = up, r = right etc, but how do I know which ball you are referring to for the moves/steps you indicate?

Im sorry to be such a noob. I just got into Sokoban recently, and have never been stuck before.

Thanks again for the help and input!

Don't think of it as which ball to go for. Just begin from the starting position and move the little man left, right up, down, etc. You'll get there. Smile

Well, we normally refer to the above solution as the LURD format.
You're correct, they refer to moving directions (of the man/sokoban) for left, up, right and down.
upper case letters refer to pushes and lower cases refer to moves.

i.e. uLLUrrr
go up, Push Left, Push Left, Push Up, move right, move right, move right.

If you think about it, there's absolutely no need to have both upper cases and lower cases. Because it's just directions telling the "man" to move.
So, when you read/follow LURD format solutions, it doesn't hurt a single bit if you just read them all as move instructions.
The above sample moves can be read as: move up, move left, move left, move up, move right, move right, move right.
(and the pusing of the balls are done automatically)

The upper/lower cases is really there as a verification method to make sure that you're really pushing a ball.
(I know of at least one sokoban clone that doesn't care about upper/lower cases.)

I know not everyone deals with LURD moves, that's why I suggested to Bjorn for a new "solution" tag (similar idea to the "code" tag) to allow re-playing solutions right on a given post body. BTW, the sample solution I gave there is the solution to level 8.

If you want a hint for the bottom four balls, make them look like this and you should be good to go:

Of course, you need to make sure you have room in the upper section before you move the "balls" from the bottom section up.
