Here is a method to make a completetly clean reinstallation of Sokoban. Follow these steps if you are having trouble starting Sokoban. Please read all instructions carefully before starting.


Make a temporary folder for your scores, for example "C:\ScoresTemp". Copy all files in the Scores folder to the ScoresTemp folder. The Scores folder is usually "Documents\Sokoban 3\Scores" or for older versions (before 3.0), "C:\Program Files\Sokoban\Scores".

Do the same for OwnLevels or any other files you have manually added to the Sokoban game. Make different temporary folders to save them in.

Open the control panel, go to "Programs and Features", the name can be different depending on Windows version. Select Sokoban 3 and unsinstall.

Open File explorer, go to the installation folder (usually "C:\Program Files\Sokoban 3\"). Delete the "Sokoban 3" folder and everything in it.

Also delete the folder "MyDocuments\Sokoban 3" or "Documents\Sokoban 3" and everything in it.

Download and save SokobanUninstall.reg. Some browsers will actually show the content of the file. In that case, do "File" - "Save Page As" and save the file with a .reg extension. Double click the saved file and confirm the popup dialogs.

This will delete a few registry values which will be given new values after installation.

Download and save Sokoban.msi. Double click the saved file and follow the instructions.

Start Sokoban to verify that everything is in order. Exit Sokoban.

Start Sokoban. After the database has been created, click "Tools" - "Import Scores". Select "from Database" and then the C:\ScoresTemp\Sokoban.db file. Repeat "Import Scores", but choose "from Score Files" and the folder C:\ScoresTemp.

Copy the score files you saved previously. Copy all files from "C:\ScoresTemp" into "Documents\Sokoban 3\Scores" or "My Documents\Sokoban 3\Scores" (depending of Windows version).

Also restore OwnLevels or other files you saved in the first step.

Play Sokoban and enjoy.
